Project: MUSIC STAVE WEDDING CAKE

You will need:
Greaseproof paper, scissors and pen, sticky tape, cocktail stick, music stave (Patchwork Cutters), paint brushes, isopropyl alcohol (Sugar Flair), White Satin dust colour (Edable Art), dowel, Embroidery & Lace Set (Patchwork Cutters).

Fig1. Cover a cake with sugarpaste. Place a paper strip around the cake to fit exactly.

Figure 1.

Fig2. Remove and fold into 6 equal sections. Mark a curved line onto the paper and cut out with scissors.

Figure 2.

Fig3. Replace the paper template around the cake and secure. Mark a curved line onto the icing using a cocktail stick.

Figure 3.

Fig4. Remove the template and emboss the music stave vertically between each curve. Leave to dry before icing the board.

Figure 4.

Fig5. Roll out white Mexican paste, cut one music stave, use a small knife to cut through both ends and into two equal pieces. Wrap one piece around a piece of dowel. Trim and moisten to stick both ends together. Remove from the dowel after half an hour. Dust the loops with white satin dust colour. Mix white satin dust colour and isopropyl alcohol and paint onto embossed cake.

Figure 5.

Fig6. Roll out white Mexican paste thinly and grease the cutter well. Cut out lace pieces and leave to dry.

Figure 6.

Fig7. Use softened sugarpaste to pipe around the base of the cake and to attach loops and lace onto the cake. Roses on cocktail sticks can be pushed into the icing to help hold them in position.

Never push wires into iced cakes without first placing them into a posy pick.
